15.00–16.00 — Removing and Storing Carbon: Responsible Forest Management as a Tool to Limit Climate Change to 1.5*C
In the corporate climate debate, there are many mixed messages about the role of carbon offsetting and investments in forests. To support robust climate action aimed at halving emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero latest 2050, this session seeks to stimulate debate about the role of forests and related investments, and how companies can find the potentials within or connected to their value chain, instead of outside. In a live panel, WWF will share best best practices to enhance biodiversity and protect people who depend of forests.

FSC will share insights on how to secure that corporate actions do not contribute to deforestation or conversion of natural ecosystems. World Resources Institute (WRI) and/or World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) will share progress on an new accounting guidance in the the GHG Protocol standard for removing and storing carbon through forestry and agriculture. Science-based Targets initiative (SBTi) will share progress on their new guidance on setting science based targets for forest, land and agriculture sectors called the FLAG standard.
