A step towards pollution reduction: More than 100 nations have agreed to a global methane pledge at COP26

A fantastic result on only the second day of COP26 as more than 100 nations have agreed to a global methane pledge that aims to cut emissions of the gas by 30% before the end of the decade.

This agreement was spearheaded by leaders of the United States and the United Kingdom, President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Boris Johnson respectively. The POTUS in particular stated in his opening speech that the US is "back at the table" and plans to "lead by example", something that has been decisively demonstrated by this latest deal.

The reason this is such a big milestone is because of the devastating impact methane has on our planet. As it accounts for 33% of total global warming emissions - and is one of the highest contributors to the "Greenhouse" effect that is slowly cooking our planet.

Levels of methane in the atmosphere are continuing to rise every day, but with this new pledge from a monumental number of states, we're likely to see a massive reduction in manmade methane emissions on our planet.

You can watch President Biden deliver his speech on the issue and the resolution that has been made by the 100+ countries to make methane emissions a thing of the past.
